[he waits until a few moments after buzz runs out before dropping down from his position above the door. while he does have his full costume on, peter is quick to tug the mask up enough to make it clear that it's him. right before he finally breaks the silence with a quiet--]
So...there's something we should probably talk about. [though, not before he adds-] Do you mind if we head up there?
[why yes, he is pointing to the rooftop. there's nothing weird about that, right?]
[good thing he's quick about it-- buzz was about to ask if this guy in spandex had seen peter around! his expression shifts from worried to surprised, but not in a bad way.]
Uh... sure, but can you give me a lift? It'll take me an hour to climb up there otherwise...
Sure. Just, uh- You've gotta trust me, okay. I won't drop you.
[scooping buzz up, he holds the toy carefully to his chest, taking another quick look round. he...really hadn't thought this through too well when he'd made the request. so short of webbing buzz to his side, he knows he has to do this the old fashioned way.
sort of.
he gives buzz a quick grin, before springing into the air, his free hand pressing to the side of the house as he starts to scramble his way upwards. webswinging will have to come later. for now, he just wants to get them both to the roof and away from any potential observers.]
I trust you, [he answers quickly, not even really flinching as peter starts climbing the damn wall like he's some kind of
sticky person.] No, I like being up high. I think it's a space toy thing.
[even if he can't actually fly. he's looking around while peter climbs, wriggling a little in his grip. goes to show he really does trust peter not to drop him when he says it.] Do you, um, crawl up to the roof often? I've never seen you up there.
Sometimes? I usually just crawl out the window though.
[yet another of the many perks that comes with living with the toys. the fact they hadn't really claimed any of the rooms upstairs means that he now has easy access whenever he wants to sneak out. or had, as the case may be now. but as much as he may not want to worry buzz when he heads out at night, he really hates the fact that he's been lying to him for all this time.
when he finally reaches the top, peter doesn't let buzz go immediately. with the slope of the roof, he doesn't want to risk it. so instead, he takes a seat, knees drawn up to give the toy a level platform to stand on for now.]
I'm sorry. You guys- You trusted me enough to show me you were alive. I should've told you about all this sooner.
...Here I thought we just had really weirdly shaped bats.
[it's not clear if he's saying that genuinely or if it's a joke. you know, like most of the bizarre shit he comes out with sometimes.
he turns as best he can, climbing to stand upright.]
Hey, now. Just because we showed you that doesn't mean you owe us. If this is something you needed to keep secret until you were ready, then that's perfectly fair enough.
Even if I didn't owe it to the others, I owed it to you.
[because as much as he may care about all four of them, may love them all, his relationships with each of them differ completely. bo will always hold a soft spot in his heart for the very fact she broke her silence that day. that she risked her own safety to try and comfort him when he needed it.
but even that pales in comparison to how much he cares about buzz. he really is one of the closest friends he has here, and he knows that he can trust him. so sharing this secret should have been easy to do.]
Back in my world, superheroes are kind of a Thing. There's a team of them called the Avengers. They're kind of awesome. [well, when they're not fighting each other] They've stopped alien invasions and killer robots and I bet there's a whole bunch of other stuff Mr Stark hasn't told me about yet.
[but that's beside the point]
Just over a year ago, I got bit by a spider, and ended up with a bunch of weird powers too. So now I try to use them to help people in my neighborhood. I just...can't exactly tell anyone. Otherwise my aunt or my friends- They could get hurt. It, uh- It kinda makes it hard to tell people here too, even though I know things are different here.
[buzz... really isn't sure how to feel about that. he's not sure if it makes him feel good or if it makes him feel weird. he manages to keep the indecision off his face, but no matter what... it really does mean a lot to him. this is what he's meant to do, and he's come to care so much about people in deerington in a way he absolutely didn't expect to. hell, he never could've guessed he'd be sitting up in peter's lap while he tells him about his secret superpowers when he'd first woken up here.
worry not; he's not about to reject this. from the moment peter says it, a little smile tugs at his mouth. he can't help it; it's a wonderful feeling, knowing the trust and friendship you have with someone is mutual. he trusts peter with a lot as well.]
I know Tony Stark. He helped me in October. [...well, they both helped each other out the way of the blood wave, but peter doesn't need to know that.] Things being different doesn't mean they're not still confusing and hard to navigate... I--I appreciate you telling me, though. I can't imagine how hard this decision must've been for you.
[...okay, that's not true. he knows what making a hard decision is like, but this means a lot to peter, so it means a lot to him too.]
...For what it's worth, I'm proud of you. For doing all you can, even here.
[buzz isn't going to think about how he knows peter perished on the titanic, thanks to bo telling him. was it trying to save someone...? fuck! don't think about it! he grips the collar of his space suit, sitting back down on peter's knees.]
that's something he wished he knew about back before the man went home. if he's known, then maybe he could've brought buzz with him when they were working together. he's pretty sure buzz would find nanotechnology just as interesting as he does. but that time is gone now, and all he has left of the man sits in a small set of cardboard boxes in his bedroom.
getting friday out of there is still a work in progress.
but before he can dwell on that for too long, buzz ends up making that statement, and peter--]
...means a lot when it comes from you.
[from somebody he respects. in this city, there's only a handful of people that he really tries his best to prove himself to. to show that he's not just "some kid". so having buzz say something like that to him hits him hard. in a good way, of course.
as for the question though, that has peter perking up completely. this is something that's a whole lot easier to talk about.]
I'm pretty strong, and my senses are kinda...amped up? And then there's the whole sticky thing. [although those aren't the parts he wants to share with buzz. instead-]
I know this is going to sound really weird, but if I went and got my backpack, would you get inside? There's something else I want to show you, but I don't want to risk dropping you.
[you can only really talk about the hard things in small bursts, can't you? buzz can't fault peter for that. it's exhausting-- pushing too hard could make you draw back permanently. it's a delicate balance he's trying to find with woody and jessie-- though... not bo, oddly enough. buzz is just so thoroughly convinced nothing could break her! she's too strong!]
I did notice the sticky thing. Just now, [he says with a little laugh.] --Ah, uh, sure. Anything you want to do.
[which...he realizes sounds an awful lot like he's trying to boss buzz around. but really, he's worried more than anything. they're a long way up right now. and while buzz may be prone to his own brand of acrobatics, he doesn't want the guy to risk it up here. so he gives buzz a few moments to settle himself in before he moves. a chance to make sure he has his footing, right before peter steps backwards off the edge of the building and falls.
for all of a few feet. right until he catches ahold of the side of the building again and crawls into his open bedroom window. he's gone for less than a minute, before he's climbing back up to the roof though, backpack in tow.]
If you get in the front, you should still be able to see.
[he obviously doesn't take offense; buzz obediently does not move. right up until peter falls, then he skids down to the edge of the roof.]
Peter! ...Peter? [okay, breathe out. he sees him climbing in through the window. let your little heart fall from your mouth.] S-Sure. Sure.
[buzz grabs the front pocket, climbing in, though he pauses for a moment.]
...Tell me if you're going to jump off the roof. I know people's powers don't work properly here and... [he stops for a moment, closing his eyes. trying not to think of mami choking.] ...just let me know.
[he immediately feels guilty at buzz's reaction. so when he picks the backpack up again, he takes a moment to wrap his arms around both buzz and the bag to he can pull the toy into an apologetic hug.]
Sorry. I should've warned you. My powers are okay here though, so you don't need to worry.
[okay, so that's not entirely true. he knows he doesn't heal like he used to. but as far as the rest of it goes, he hasn't run in to any problems yet. which is just as well, given what he plans on doing now.
the backpack is pulled on in reverse, buzz kept at his front so he'll get a prime view when they start moving. though in the interests of playing it safe, he also takes a moment to shoot a web across his front too, pinning the backpack into place a little more tightly. he's not taking any risks when it comes to keeping buzz safe.]
I'm gonna be jumping off the roof again in a moment. But I won't let you fall. I promise.
[he won't hold it against peter. hell, the poor kid doesn't even need to know why buzz knows that, or why it scares him. beyond the obvious reasons, of course. buzz isn't too subtle on how he clings to peter for a moment when he comes back.
then he's slipped into the backpack, and he's still confused about what's going to happen! what, is peter about to yeet him and the backpack off the roof? is that why he's being put in it? for cushioning.]
I trust you. I'm looking forward to what's about to happen...! [...] Or, well. Back.
[he grins down at buzz for a moment. right before he's tugging his mask back on again, the eyes taking a second to focus as it springs to life. there's a one-sided conversation that buzz is briefly privy to. a muttered "hey, karen" and "no, not tonight. i'm just showing buzz around." and because he wouldn't be peter without it, a final "thanks. we'll talk later, okay?" ai or not, he does actually like talking to her.
but with all that out the way, peter finally nods to himself, before turning to face the edge of the roof. another doublecheck to make sure buzz is secure and!
